Website: www.ba.com
Headquarters:

British Airways
Waterside (HCB3)
PO Box 365

General Information:
British Airways plc is the largest airline and flag carrier of the United Kingdom and one of the largest in Europe. Its main hubs are London Heathrow and London Gatwick. British Airways is engaged in the operation of international and domestic scheduled air services for the carriage of passengers, freight and mail, and the provision of ancillary services.

British Airways was founded as Aircraft Transport and Travel, which, after World War I, launched its first daily international scheduled air service between London and Paris. The airline, simultaneously with Air France, inaugurated the world’s first supersonic passenger service with Concorde in 1976.

The company divides its business into two segments: passenger and cargo transportation. The passenger airline is one of the world’s largest scheduled services offering around 147 destinations in 75 countries. The company’s cargo transportation services carried 762,000 tons of cargo to destinations in Europe, the Americas, and throughout the world during the fiscal year ended March 31, 2007.

The company recorded revenues of £8,492 million during fiscal year 2007, an increase of 3.4% over 2006. The operating profit of the company was £602 million during fiscal year 2007, a decrease of 13% compared to 2006. The net profit was £290 million in fiscal year 2007, a decrease of 35.7% compared to 2006.

Aircraft and fleet information:
The company maintains a fleet of 242 aircrafts. With the exception of Boeing 707 and Boeing 747 from BOAC, the airline as formed in 1972-4 inherited a mainly British built fleet of aircraft. With the Paris Crash in 2000, the future of Concorde was limited despite the expensive modifications after the crash.

Destinations:
British Airways plc offers flight across an extensive network covering 147 destinations in 75 countries. Its most popular destination is North America.
