More than 50 per cent of all flight movements in and out of Dubai International Airport are Emirates aircraft. By 2010, that figure is expected to rise to 70 per cent. The airline was established on May 25, 1985, by the Dubai government. It started operations with flights to Karachi and Mumbai followed by Delhi in September. Emirates Airlines is wholly owned by the Government of Dubai and has more than 20,000 employees. The company recorded revenues of AED 31,131.6 million (approximately $8480.2 million) during the fiscal year ended March 2007, an increase of 28.4% over 2006. The operating profit of the company was AED36, 34.8 million (approximately $990.1 million) during fiscal year 2007, an increase of 23.5% over 2006. The net profit was AED34, 56.3 million (approximately $941.5 million) in fiscal year 2007, an increase of 23.5% over 2006. Aircraft and fleet information: Emirates Airlines operates a full wide-body aircraft fleet from three aircraft families: the Boeing 777, the Airbus 330, and the Airbus A340. In keeping with its policy of maintaining a young fleet, which stands at an average of 5.6 years in August 2007, it renews its fleet frequently. Destinations: Emirates fly to 94 destinations in 60 countries on six continents from its primary hub in Dubai. It has particularly strong presence in the Southeast Asian region. |
