Getting To and From Egypt by Air

Most visitors to Egypt will get there by air. There are a huge number of airlines that operate in and out of Cairo and Egyptair offers international flights in and out of Luxor and Hurghada. Charter flights from London also fly in to Cairo, Luxor and Hurghada.

Directions & Transportations

Taxi - Taxis are available from the airport to the city centre and they leave from outside the Arrivals Hall of the airport.

Bus - Buses are available from the airport to the city centre. There is also an airport bus service that operates from Terminal 1. Bus no.400 leaves every half hour during the day and every hour at night time.

Road - There are many options available to travellers arriving and leaving the airport: car; bus; limousines and taxi services.

From Cairo city centre, the airport can be reached across the 6th October Bridge via Salah Salem Road, which leads to Heliopolis. The airport and Heliopolis are well signposted from the city centre. The airport is located just off the Al-Orouba main road.

Airport facilities

Airport Info:Information desks are located in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, in the Arrivals and Departures halls and in the transit hall. Flight information on (0)2 634 8566 is available 24 hours a day.

Baggage:There are baggage trolleys and porters available throughout the airport. Left luggage facilities can also be found in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Money: The airport has a bank; a 24 hour bureaux de change; and several ATMs, which are located in the Departures Hall of both terminals.

More Services:There are 24 hour post offices and a pharmacy located in the Departures hall of both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Eating & Drinking:There are a number of restaurants found at the airport, that serve a wide variety of refreshments. Bars are situated in the Departures halls of both terminals and are open 24 hours.

Shopping:There are a variety of shops, including gift shops; clothing shops; bookshops; and newsagents, located in the Departures halls in both terminals and in the new transit hall. Duty-free shops are available on arrival and departure in both terminals of the airport.

Business Facilities:There is a business centre situated in Terminal 1, which is connected to the new transit hall by an escalator. Business facilities and meeting rooms are also available in the Novotel Cairo Airport Hotel.

Disabled Facilities:There are wheelchairs available on request and there are disabled toilets in the airport. Disabled passengers should inform their airline for assistance prior to traveling. There are no reserved car parking spaces for disabled drivers.


Getting Around Egypt by Air

If you have little time but a lot of money, flying within Egypt is your best option. Egyptair flies daily from Cairo to Alexandria, Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel, and Hurghada and twice a week to Kharga Oasis. Air Sinai (a subsidiary of Egyptair)flies from Cairo to Hurghada, Al Arish, Taba, Sharm el Sheikh, St. Catherine's Monastery, El Tor, and to Tel Aviv, Israel. Your local travel agent should be able to book these flights for you or go directly through Egyptair. Egyptair has booking offices throughout Egypt if you decide to buy a ticket while you are visiting. Book well in advance during peak season.
