Default Cheap Flights

Here are some top tips for gaining the cheapest flights possible:
  • Buy late online - search for your flights as close to your departure as possible.
  • Look for your flights late at night - most airlines post their flights around midnight.
  • Buy package deals - these always give you cheaper flights, as long as you are prepared to book your accommodation as well. Although, if it is really close to your departure date, these packages can be cheaper than buying a plane ticket! So snap one up - you don't have to use the accommodation!
  • Search around the different airlines on the internet - calling an airline with a quote you already have may lower the price.
  • Look at budget airlines - especially if you are only going short-haul, they can be very affordable.
  • If there is food provided, and you would prefer to cut the expense, you can normally opt out after booking your ticket, but make sure you ask the airline this in advance.

Default Budget Airlines or expensive flight?

As offersflights has said, there are many ways to find a cheap flight, especially on the internet. However, although they are good on price, I haven't always had the best experiences. Here are some top tips if you are planning on flying by budget airline:

Make sure you check the extras that the airlines can add on, such as insurance. This is normally cheaper if you buy it separately from another company. Also make sure they do not add anything else on such as in-flight food, unless this is something you want.

Some airlines, such as Ryanair, charge for baggage check-in, which can be a large fee. So check to see whether this amount is worth it or whether you would be able to take hand luggage on with you instead.

Budget flights save on money by offering less luxuries, and this can be a hassle when flying long-haul. Although on long-haul flights you are almost guarenteed food, make sure that this is the case. Also make sure things such as water is offered, and if not make sure you buy some at the airport.

They also have less staff, which can be annoying if you have a problem during your flight or you are expecting a fast service.

Budget airlines can also be a problem, as they tend to fly from larger airports, and mostly London. This can mean your travel expenses to the London airports, means that you could of paid for the more expensive flights and flown from nearer home.

Budget Airlines may also flight at more incovenient times, such as early in the morning of late at night. This is because the airport is less busy, and they can then make the flights cheaper. However, it also means that you have to get up earlier or stay up all night, especially if you have to travel to an airport that is far away.

If you don't mind getting up early in the morning, then a budget flight should pose no problem, as long as they don't delay it!

However, this doesn't mean that the larger, more expensive airlines, are any better. They can still be known for poor service, delayed flights, bad food and luggage problems. So why not ask around for people who have had good experiences with different airlines, and also check on forums.

I find websites really useful, such as this one where you can find out how different airlines rate with previous customers, visit: http://www.airlinequality.com/
