Default Saving Space on your packing

Whether you travel for business of pleasure, you always need to pack wisely to make sure you don't run out of anything or can fit all that you need in your suitcase. Here are some practical tips for economising on packing, or making sure you have all those essentials.
  • If you travel frequently for short periods of time think about your packing options carefully. Try using luggage that can be taken onboard, as it saves checking in luggage or collecting it after your flight.
  • A 22" roller case is about the largest carry-on luggage can be, which should provide enough space for around 3 or 4 days.
  • Rolling your clothes in a sure way to fit all of your clothes in, and remember to only take what is essential.
  • If you want to take more than one pair of shoes remember to put items in them, such as underwear. But try and choose a pair of shoes that will match any out fit, such as black pumps. But if you are going somewhere hot take some small and comfy flip flops as they take up hardly any space.
  • Toiletries can be kept to a minimum as there are many travel essentials that can be purchased in small bottles. Most retailers and supermarkets sell small bottles of shampoo and shower gel etc. However, if your favourite brand doesn't offer these yet, chemists also sell small empty bottles and sprays for you to fill yourself.
  • If you like to dry your hair, and are worried there might not be a hairdryer in your hotel, take a small travel hairdryer. The same applies for other items such as hair straughteners. The travel sized ones are new on the market, and Marks and Spencers sell their own (Hair Straighteners from M&S).
  • Taking lighter clothes is also an option, depending on where you are travelling too. If you are going somewhere cold, then you cannot help packing thick jumpers etc. But if you only need to wear light trousers and shorts pack those!
  • Remember to take a plastic bag or two with you to put your dirty washing in as you go along. It saves space in your suitcase while you are there, and makes sure that you can remember which clothes are clean.

Also remember to keep your hand luggage/personal bag small and light. This saves the hassle of carrying around two large bags.
  • Wear many thin layers onto the plane, so that you can wear them instead of putting them into your bag, but you can also take them off as you might get hot in the plane.
  • Pack your essentials into your personal bag, such as purse, phone, glasses etc. It is also useful to pack a foldaway bag, which you can get in many shops. This means that as you take off your clothes layers or buy anything in the terminal you can place them in there.

Top Tip: PLAN what you need to take, and make sure that you do not take anything that you really won't use. Write a list if you need to - so that you only take the essentials.
