Default Flying to Tunisia

Most travellers to Tunisia arrive by air. The country's main ariport, Tunis-Carthage, is located outside the capital city of Tunis and is served by airlines hailing from Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Connections can be made at Tunis-Cathage to secondary airports within the country, but these are only served by the national airline and some private charter flyers.

Most major European airlines have regularly scheduled flights to Tunis' Carthage Airport, which is only about five miles (8km) from downtown. There are very few direct flights between Tunisia and Asia or North America, so you'll need to fly either a European airline, or one with a European partner. If you're willing to fly charter, you could save some money. Lots of inexpensive flights are available from Europe, especially London, Paris, and Frankfurt, some of which have direct service to resorts like Sousse, Monastir, and Jerba.

Crossing by ferry from France or Italy is also an option, and it's possible (though a pain) to bring a car or motorcycle along for the ride. To do so, bring the vehicle's registration papers and purchase liability insurance and an international driver's permit (in addition to your domestic licence). The only transport option between Algeria and Tunisia is taking a shared taxi (louage) from Place Sidi Bou Mendil in the Tunis medina to Annaba and Constantine. Travel to and from Libya is also difficult, and the likelihood of getting a visa remains slim. A better bet is to go through a tour company specialising in trips to Libya.
